How Does Do-It-Yourself Credit
Repair Work?
We are all exposed to many
advertisements everyday about how companies can help us with debt management. We see them in
the internet, in the newspapers, in the television; we hear them in the radio, on YouTube and many other media
used in advertising. The ads all promise to take our bad credit out from our credit file, how we can be debt
free and many other promises that sometimes instead of really helping out, they only stress us because at the
end of the day, they don’t really work.
You see, the most helpful player in
this game is yourself. You, above anyone else, know yourself and your real financial status more than anyone else
does. With that being said, who else could really help you but yourself? You may struggle and legitimately doing
your personal credit repair may take time, effort and a fix debt repayment plan.
Help yourself by having a reality check
of your current financial status. Identify your expenses and see how you can lower them down. Seek for additional
sources of income but make sure they are legit. If necessary and possible, change your lifestyle. Avoid unnecessary
purchases at all cost. This includes hiring a credit repair company who is only up to no good.
How Do I Recognize a Credit Repair
Scam?
The sad part about being broke; I mean
struggling to be debt free is that many companies take advantage of your situation. While they claim to improve
your credit report, they will only take the rest of your remaining money and can’t really deliver what they’ve
promised. You will know them once you see them do the following:
1. The company requires an upfront
payment so they can process your documents and get you out of debt right away. Credit Repair Organizations act
clearly prohibits companies from requiring you to pay anything until they complete the services that they promise.
If they require you to pay right away that should give you a good idea that they aren’t for real.
2. The company doesn’t orient you of
your rights. You deserve to know every right you have and what you can do for yourself without paying
anything.
3. The company does not recommend you
contact the national credit reporting directly. They obviously want to keep things for themselves so as your
money.
4. The company advises you to dispute
all the information in your credit report regardless of its accuracy.
If you see that the company that you’re working with is doing any of the mentioned above, you
better think again if they really are there to help you in your credit repair or only to commit additional
damages.
